I don't normally like this sort of thing, but this issue is massively important. Here's an awk pic of me pretending to smoke  a tampon. Because it's #JustATampon. There are a lot of completely ridiculous stigmas towards women and periods. In many developing countries throughout the world, women go without the hygiene products they need to stay clean and safe. In some developed countries, such as Australia, tampons and pads are not considered health products and are taxed at a higher rate than they should be. Menstruation is not a scary or disgusting thing, and we definitely need to talk about it more to help end stigma towards women and girls everywhere. This is my contribution to the #justatampon campaign.

No, you are not seeing things. Yes, that is a tampon in my nose. Yes it was a little taboo but it's not as taboo as people make a period out to be. Periods are natural. They are not gross, or taboo. Sure, they can be messy, which is why the #JustATampon campaign exists. To take down the stigma of periods and to provide girls who aren't as fortunate to have things like pads or tampons. Only 12% of girls and women have access to sanitary products around the world. Some girls have to miss school for a week once a month at the risk of being bullied for 'free-bleeding.' In Africa, one in ten girls will miss school during their periods. In Australia, girls pay a higher price for pads/tampons because they aren't considered health products. It's 2015, it's time to stop shaming girls for being girls. It's just a tampon. Period.
