ריאן מרפי, האיש שעומד מאחורי אינספור סדרות טלוויזיה - ניפ/טאק, גלי, סיפור אימה אמריקאי, מלכות הצעקה, אויבות, וסיפור פשע אמריקאי, שרק לפני חודש זכה עליה בפרס האמי - רגיל לעסוק בנושאים מפחידים, אבל מתברר שבשנתיים האחרונות הוא עובר סיפור אימה משלו. מרפי חשף בפוסט באינסטגרם שבנו הצעיר, פורד, אובחן לפני כשנתיים בנוירובלסטומה - גידול שכיח אצל ילדים, שיכול להפוך סרטני. 

"אני רוצה שתכירו את פורד תאודור מילר מרפי", כתב מרפי מתחת לתמונה של בנו המתוק רכוב על סוס פוני. "היום היה יום גדול במשפחה שלנו. לפני שנתיים, הילד המתוק והתמים הזה עם הצחוק העמוק והאובססיה למשאיות, אובחן בסרטן, עם גידול בבטן בגודל של כדור טניס".

I’d like you to meet Ford Theodore Miller Murphy. Today is a big day in his and our family’s lives. Two years ago, this sweet little innocent boy with a deep belly laugh and an obsession with Monster Trucks was diagnosed with neuroblastoma…an often fatal pediatric cancer. Ford’s cancer — an abdominal tumor the size of a tennis ball — was found during a normal check up by his brilliant pediatrician Dr. Lauren Crosby @drlaurencrosby. From there, Ford has undergone a huge surgery and several difficult procedures. My better half, David Miller, was a rock through this — strong and patient and loving (I was always a trembling wreck). Ford was strong as well, and today he is thriving. He just celebrated his fourth birthday, a milestone we are all so thrilled about. Ford is doing so well because of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles @childrensla. Today at the hospital we are donating a wing in tribute to Ford and our family is making a gift of $10 million dollars so that other children can experience the love and care of this exceptional facility. מרפי, שחולק שני ילדים עם דיוויד מילר (פורד בן ה-4 ואחיו הגדול לוגן בן ה-6), שיבח בפוסט את רופאת הילדים ההוליוודית לורן קרוסבי, שמצאה את הגידול בבדיקה שגרתית, וגם את בן זוגו. "פורד עבר ניתוח מסובך ועוד כמה הליכים קשים", הוא המשיך. "החצי היותר טוב שלי, דיוויד מילר, היה סלע בתקופה הזאת - חזק וסבלני ואוהב (אני בעיקר רעדתי). פורד היה גם הוא חזק, והיום הוא פורח. הוא בדיוק חגג יום הולדת ארבע".

מרפי לא הסתפק בחשיפה של מחלת בנו והתהליך הלא פשוט שעבר. הוא המשיך והודה לבית החולים לילדים בלוס אנג׳לס, וגילה את סיבת תזמון הפוסט: "היום אנחנו תורמים אגף על שם פורד לבית החולים, והמשפחה שלנו נותנת להם מתנה של עשרה מיליון דולר, כדי שעוד ילדים יוכלו לחוות את האהבה והדאגה של המוסד יוצא הדופן הזה".
